The eclipse is all over the news today. (yesterday);
Nuala McGovern living it up in Missouri; *
It doesn’t seem that long
Since
The total eclipse
Down in Newquay.
(1999, the year we all thought the world would end).
I wasn’t there,
my folks were visiting.
It was a warm summer.
dad came back tanned
and
I
still
have a picture
of him
In green welly boots
Mowing my brother’s lawn.
On today’s radio
I just listened to an astronomer
From South Western Australia
Who
Described
Drawing
Constellations
For her children when they couldn’t sleep at night;
When my kids couldn’t sleep
We watched Tigger.
The astronomer,
Had that gentleness,
respect
&
deference
that you sometimes
encounter
In people
Who have got it.
How great would it be if people were to just accept one another and not judge, not criticise, not evaluate and measure, just let be, let indulge in the connectedness that is part of what it is to be human.
This
I
believe
Is the secret to being a good
doctor
or nurse
or teacher
or carer/parent/technician/secretary
gardener
navigator
coordinator
(manager?)
driver/learner/retiree/banker/investor/recruiter
builder/
scientist
architect
designer
Menorah Maker
Metallurgist
Technologist
Archivist
& so on;
Artist.
*And today she is sleeping with the enemy;
Genug;
Nuala; now, now.
Suffit.
Enough with the Fox News!
Big open skies here in South West WA Rod, perfect for star gazing. But gentleness, respect and deference are probably not qualites at the top of the list when describing Australians. Can you recall the astronomer’s name or radio program you were listening to?

Hi Wendy, afraid I didn’t catch her name. Last similar person I met was two years ago at the BMJ/IHI conference- she was Australian too & ran the yoga / mindfulness session. Putting you in the same category and a few folk I have met over the years into the gentleness box, I am sure there are more thank your fellow citizens like to admit!
