I wonder
What is the rule for hospital
Inpatient falls.
I mean,
There must be some
Golden Rule
That you can
Work-out.
How many minor falls
For every bad fall.
Bad being
Broken hip,
Brain bleed
Death.
Interesting ratio to calculate.
‘How many patients have fallen in your hospital in the past year, how many serious injuries’
Would the data tell us something?
We all strive to minimise falls for patients in hospitals,
Everyone has a different strategy to achieve this.
It is
the single biggest harm we cause our patients
or
Some might argue,
our patients cause themselves.
It has all to do with Swiss Cheese;
The James Reason
Variety.
The more porous your cheese,
The more incidents
And likely the more serious harm.
