Young woman,
(Wellcome Collection),
talking
to us
in a distracted way
via
patchwork pig
cradled in her arms.
She gets us to think
about
meaning and metaphor.
It is an oversized fatty tumour;
I guess,
that is the best way to describe
the image
standing
on two feet,
varicose ulcers
adorning
stocky legs.
It is only after ten minutes
of confusion
of, trying to understand
why, when she talks
she moves her pig; (she, is the pig’s voice)
From describing the imagery of fat –
the psychological ins and outs of eating
and
over-eating
she moved-on to
the
Psychology of pigs,
in factory farming
and
their struggles
with eating disorders.
A teenage girl listening, looked in pain;
I could almost taste her disinterest.
It was a shame we couldn’t get to see the tapir skeleton
or the pickled marmosets.
