I learned today

That

There is no developed

or developing world,

No

First or third

No East or West

It is all an invention

of people who can’t quite grasp

the reality

Of 2018

according to

Hans Rosling

who,

Wrote the book.

 

It is a narrative of positivity

Making me feel

Less bad

About my place in the world.

 

Yet,

Making me also

think

of,

Perhaps

40 years ago

Sitting with mum,

And her respect

For the woman

Who claimed not to have had a family

Because of the pressure,

The inequity,

Inequality of society;

 

If only she’d known

That

We

As a race

Are actually moving,

Not wholly,

But generally,

In the right direction.
