If my mind is stolen,
and I acquire a Union Jack tattoo, you will know the experiment was a failure.
Many are unaware of the pain and sometimes indignity facing the patients (as Old Adam waits on that stretcher, in hospital gown, bottom or testicle peeking-out, he needs the toilet, ‘Just go in your pad,’ he is told.)
I don’t know what aquatic life is in Manvers, hopefully I won’t catch elvers, velvet or whatever the disease.
It was a few weeks ago. I was logged-on to a meeting. Locked, stock to the computer screen, my face flickering at 60Hz, my fingers dancing over the keyboard, and, me, for the most pretending to eye-contact, whilst reading the Guardian. We have closed schools which has reduced transmission; we can’t close care homes.
Working as he does with people who have dementia, is it even worthwhile sending the GP a note – ‘Your patient did not attend the clinic this morning; we will see them routinely in six months.’ Or worse, ‘Your patient did not attend the clinic. We have discharged them.’
The pull of this is so strong it overwhelms our logic.
And so, we compete.
Compete for nurses, doctors and so on.
Scare resources don’t go a long way in a finite economy.
Is this what we want? One overall winner with everyone else losing?
Take off the boxing-gloves and share a cup of tea or coffee – whatever your preference.
Slow down, be mindful, respect your elders, respect your knees & don’t mess too much with your hair!
